This Ministry of Care is a service offered to people at vulnerable and painful times in their lives. The person who cares for the sick and shut-in needs to have specific qualities and gifts, including a listening presence, compassion and empathy, a non-judgmental mindset, confidentiality, a gentle demeanor and commitment to continuous spiritual development.
Throughout the history of the Church, the ministry to the homebound has been a major part of the works of mercy in parish life. Serving the homebound and sick is a ministry. As such, it's important that ministers not act on their own, but on behalf of the Church.
There are many different ways you can help with the Homebound Ministry:
- Take Holy Communion to people in their homes
- Write cards and letters offering encouragement and pray
- Birthday/Anniversary cards
- Phone calls to parishioners on the prayer list, the sick, and the elderly
- Contact widows and widowers after some time has passed
- Offer a listening ear to those who may be lonely
As our mission statement states, we hold sacred the dignity of every human life. We strive to be the hands and feet of Christ to the hurting soul. If you would like to assist with this ministry, please contact Mary at the number below.
